His Wedding Was Called Off, So He Donated It To Charity

Most people would feel more than a little sour after the wedding they’ve been waiting for comes to a screeching halt, but Pennsylvania man Phil Laboon decided to turn his negative situation into an extreme positive. Since he’d already paid for the reception venue, food, alcohol and music, he decided they shouldn’t go to waste. So, now he’s selling tickets at $75 apiece and donating 100 percent of the proceeds to Surgicorps International, a non profit based out of Glenshaw, Pennsylvania made up of doctors who provide free surgeries and other medical care for children in developing countries.
“We tried to come up with an idea real quick,” Laboon says.. “It’s a pretty last-minute, crazy thing.” And the founder of Surgicorps International, Dr. Jack Demos is completely awe-struck. “My reaction? Wow,” he says. “I give him all the credit in the world for taking a less-than-ideal situation and making it into a potential circumstance where he can really give back and say, ‘Look, I’m down, but I’m not out, and I’m going to use this opportunity to help those who have a lot worse circumstances than I have.’ We are honored to be selected and very, very thankful.”
