This Couple Live Streamed Their Wedding To Their Followers!

Pat was pretty sure Billy was “the one” ever since he saw a picture of him with a mutual friend on Facebook in 2009. He sent a message to his friend that read, “If you could somehow assist me in making a certain [Billy] my husband, that would be great. I find him adorable.” A few quick messages and a rainy Central Park date later, Billy and Pat knew they were perfect for each other.
Once they were engaged, however, they found themselves fielding tons of questions from their family: Who proposed to whom, which last name do you take, will you marry in a church, etc. “After getting engaged, we realized we didn’t have that many points of reference regarding same-sex marriages and wedding planning. Because we were answering so many questions from people around us, we knew there had to be other people out there going through the same situation. We decided to start a YouTube channel dedicated to answering those questions gay couples often face, and to record our journey,” Pat says. Followers helped decide some of the wedding variables and even picked out Billy’s attendant‘s floor-length, sequined dress.
“Since we were having an evening wedding in the heart of December, we wanted to keep the theme dark, yet warm,” Billy says. “We never really settled on one particular color palette, but we ended up using hints of gold within our designs.” A close friend, Kelly McEvoy, helped design and coordinate the day. Pine trees and birch branches found by Billy’s father made up the cozy decor, while a custom illustrated portrait of the couple (commissioned by artist Matt Howorth) was the focal point of the ceremony space. Billy’s mother made mercury glass mason jars filled with LED lights for warm, intimate centerpieces. To honor the lifelong commitment of marriage, Billy and Pat asked each married guest to bring a framed portrait from their wedding. “It was so beautiful to see them all together in one place and to know that we were going to join the group,” Pat says. “Many of our guests didn’t realize the photos they were looking at were the same people in the room until they recognized themselves!”
A year after the two launched their video blog, BillyandPatVlog, the two had amassed a pretty large following. “We decided to stream our wedding ceremony through our channel so that everyone who had taken the journey with us could experience our special day,” Billy explained.
