Wedding Cakes

Wedding Cakes

A wedding cake can be as simple or as extravagant as you like and accordingly can be relatively inexpensive or enough to break the bank.

The reason wedding cakes are often so expensive is due to the intricate work that is involved and the many hours of labor that are required to create the decorations.

For some people this is an expense that they feel is unnecessary and a simple cake or alternative form of 'symbolic food' such as a favorite dessert or something similar can be used.

More often than not however people prefer a traditional wedding cake and in keeping with the rest of the theme of the wedding it is generally decorated in colors similar to those of the flowers and any other decorations at the reception.

Certainly by reducing the size of the wedding cake it can help to keep the costs down and also by keeping the cake less intricate in its decorations you can save yourself a lot of money.

You can also use your flower arrangements or other forms of decoration that are more cost-effective to enhance the look of the wedding cake and keep the cake itself relatively plain and simple.

It really is a case of weighing up the expense with the importance that you put on the style of cake that you prefer and whether you can save money elsewhere to get the cake you desire.

Once again do your research and get some prices from various different suppliers of wedding cakes and also consider asking your friends and family if they know anybody who does cake decorating as many people do it for a hobby and will be only too willing to help out on the special occasion.

Often you can get somebody to create your cake for the cost of the materials alone and this can be their gift to you for your wedding rather than paying for something else.

One important thing that you must remember however is to check their work to see if it is up to a standard that you would be happy to have at your wedding and don't feel obliged to use their services if you aren't satisfied.

Wedding Dresses fit for Celebrities

Wedding Dresses fit for Celebrities

They say that her wedding day is the best day of a woman's life. This cliché holds true to most women. Even more if you are a celebrity and can spend as much as you want for that one day when all eyes are on you and Mr. Right waiting for you at the altar.

Because they can afford it, celebrities often approach acclaimed designers to create their bridal gowns.

During the 90s, Vera Wang was often a celebs' best friend on their wedding day.

Vera Wang worked as a Fashion Director for Vogue magazine and a design director for Ralph Lauren. That was when she realized that there was no fashion when it comes to the bridal business. All dresses were traditional were lacking style and sophistication. To resolve this, she created a bridal line of her very own.

Vera Wang's salon which showed off her bridal collection opened in 1990. The freshness of detail and the exuberance of elegance quickly gained her recognition the world over.

Celebrities who have donned Vera Wang wedding dresses are Jennifer Lopez (off-shoulder lacey ruffled dress), Jessica Simpson (meringue color) and Sharon Stone (light pink chiffon.) Other celebrities who wore Vera Wang on their special day are Mariah Carey, Uma Thurman, Holly Hunter and Karenna Gore.

Remaining true to Paris haute fashion, Vera Wang uses fabrics that are luxurious and rich to detail such as beading. Combining modern style to traditional touches, Vera Wang wedding dresses include sweet bows and tulle dresses. Her creations convey that brides can be seductive.

A Vera Wang wedding dress ranges from as cheap as $2000 to as expensive as $7000. These can be obtained at her bridal salon and department stores like Neiman Marcus, Barneyís and Saks Fifth Avenue.

But lately, another designer-to-the-stars is making a name for herself when it comes to creating wedding dresses.

Monique Lhuillier is of French, Spanish and Filipino heritage. She grew up in the Philippines. Because of her mom's glamorous style and her family's usual traveling, Monique's influence led her to dream of becoming a fashion designer.

She graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. Afterwards, she worked at a small French firm. By designing her own wedding, her vision of her own firm was concretized. By 1996, she launched her first-ever bridal collection.

Celebrities have strutted the red carpet and are featured in editorial spreads wearing Monique Lhuillier creations. But it is her wedding dresses that have been featured more.

Celebrities who have worn Monique Lhuillier's wedding dresses include singer Pink (in an ivory and black Monique Lhuillier creation), Lost star Emilie de Ravin (in a lacey long gown), and ìEveî star Ali Landry.

But it is when she designed wedding dresses for two high-profile celebrity weddings that placed her creations on the A-Listers' wedding brochures. She designed Christine Baumgartner's wedding dress for her fall 2004 wedding to hubby director and actor Kevin Costner. Prior to that, she designed Britney Spearsí two wedding dresses to hubby (now her ex) dancer and aspiring singer-actor Kevin Federline.

Monique Lhuillier also designed the five burgundy silk crepe dresses for the bridesmaids and mothers of the bride and groom.

She has also designed the wedding dresses of Debbie Metenopoulos, Charlotte Ross and Natalie Imbruglia. She was selected by 300,000 Today Show viewers to take part on their Today Throws a Destination Wedding 2004 series.

She also designed gowns for the red-carpet, worn by Allison Janney, Jamie-Lynn Discala, Megan Mullaly, Famke Janssen and Teri Hatcher.

Lhuillier's wedding dress designs are quite feminine. Its trademark is the exquisite workmanship and the extravagant fabrics used. Very few of which have sleeves but a majority are like full skirts with a flair for drama.

Most importantly, Lhuillier's wedding dresses have a stylish and modern feel. Perhaps this is the reason why her creations are in demand for celebrities walking down the aisle. At the same time, they still have the traditional sentiment of romance.

A Monique Lhuillier wedding dress has a price range from $2000 to $10,000 dollars. Her wedding dresses can be found in boutiques such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus.

Her wedding is truly any woman's special day. With a Vera Wang and Monique Lhuillier dress, these are only icing to the wedding cake!

Wedding Etiquette: Invitations

Some couples think that wedding invitations are not of major importance. They think that a wedding invitation it is just a piece of paper that they give out to their wedding guest which will be forgotten afterwards.

This thought is completely wrong. In fact, there is wedding etiquette to be observed, even on invitations. This is because wedding invitations give your guests a preview and set the tone for how your nuptials will be celebrated. They will know through the wedding invitations how formal the event is and what they should wear so as to comply with the dress code.

Also, well made wedding invitations will make a lasting impression on your wedding. Your guests will remember you even through your wedding invitation.

Here are some information on wedding etiquette on invitations:

Wedding Etiquette On Invitations Fact 1:

What should be the wordings on your invitation?

You can go as formal as you like or as informal as you like. Formal wordings are those that we often see on wedding invitations such as:

(centered)
Mr. and Mrs. John Bates
request the honour of your presence
at the marriage of their daughter
Rachel Anne Bates
to
Mr. Matthew James Phoenix
son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Phoenix
...

You can replace the wordings of the above example and apply your own wordings most especially if it is the couples who will do the inviting. Wedding etiquette on invitations does not prohibit a funny or poetic invitation wording.

Wedding Etiquette On Invitations Fact 2:

Who should be inviting? The rules on this have changed over the years.  Before, if the father of the bride hosts the wedding, he should be the only person who would do the inviting. But today, many couples pay for their own wedding, so they may feel free to do the inviting. In this case they can also still feel free to honor their parents on the invitation.

Wedding Etiquette On Invitations Fact 2:

When to send invitations?

Wedding etiquette on sending out of invitations must be done four to six weeks before the wedding day. But for couples who prepare their wedding one or two years ahead. Then can send out a Save the Date Announcement. This is also true for couples who will be planning a destination wedding theme. In this case, wedding etiquette makes it clear that invitations must be sent out earlier than four to six weeks, in fact even six months ahead, so that the guests can make their own hotel reservations ahead of time

But remember, the Keep the Date Card is not yet the proper invitation. It is a violation of wedding etiquette to replace a proper wedding invitation with a Wedding Date Announcement Card. The Save the Date Cards just serve as an initial announment about your upcoming marriage. You should give your guests the courtesy to inform them of the exact venue of wedding celebration and reception, the attire and the date and time with a formal invitation.

Wedding Etiquette On Invitations Fact 3:

Remove the tissues that come with engraved invitations. These tissues ar meant to protect the paper from getting ink smudges before the invitation are delivered at your doorstep. It is a wedding etiquette no-no to include them in your invitation. It will ruin the look of your wedding invitation.

Wedding Etiquette On Invitations Fact 3:

On the issue of registry cards, wedding etiquette on invitation is very clear that registry cards should not be included in the invitation. You may indicate that you have an online registry if you have any and you can ask your guests to visit your online registry. But its a wedding etiquette on invitation blunder if you insert your wedding registry cards. Remember that gifts should always come as a surprise and not expected.

Wedding Etiquette On Invitations Fact 4:

There is also wedding etiquette for guests in anwering invitations. They should respond to a formal or informal wedding invite as soon as they get them and response should not be later than two weeks before the wedding.

Wedding Monograms Are Having A Moment! Get the Look

Upon arriving in Venice for a weekend of wedding festivities, George Clooney’s gorgeous bride-to-be Amal carried a hat box branded with a custom AG monogram. The cursive A which fit perfectly next to the strong G was spotted throughout the weekend, on the flags of the gondolas that transported A-list guests and even on the hotel staff’s lapels. We’ve rounded up some of our favorite monograms from real weddings with ideas on how to incorporate them into your own details — and don’t worry, branding Venetian water taxis is not one of them!
